From the recording Ain't Nothin Free
At first my idea (which I still think would be great to pursue somehow) was to follow the path that a dollar bill takes through the lives of people and all their weird, warped and wonderful ways (prostitutes, drunks, music, banks, etc.) But I couldn’t quite figure how to do that without writing a full length novel instead of a limited amount of lyrics to flow with a melody. So then I was imagining scenarios just involving alcohol…….which did not require as much imagination. -Hymie
Lyrics
Sittin on the back porch after the jam
Got a dollar bill burnin' in his hand
Walked over to the bar where Jennie sit
And try to see what he could get
Come on over, just give it to me
She said I'll open my heart but ain't nothin free
After bushwhackin' halfway up the pine
With the glow of the moon comin off that shine
He found his friend of a whisky still
And said pour me a jar o that holler swill
Tip it over and just give it to me
Shaking so bad cause ain’t nothin free
With a little wobble and a little stank
Walked over to the bar to get some drank
The bartender looked at his slack-ass pants
There wasn't nothin there but a vacant glance
Hung over, just pitifully
You better pull out some dough, cause ain't nothin free
That boy came back in another week
He got a big ol' urge to take another peak
She hauled back and put a fist in his eye
And said I ain't gonna give it for free bye bye
So roll over, and get your leg off o’ me
Get off a my porch, cause ain't nothin free
Said, get off a my porch, cause ain’t nothin free
